Klassic Sound, a Baltimore, MD and Washington DC source for audio, staging and lighting services, jumped on the opportunity to provide production services for the City of Alexandria’s Police Headquarter’s Grand Opening, when the city presented their RFP in early November, 2011. The production requirements included a discrete public address system to reinforce speech to 500 people, a 12‘x20’ stage and 4‘x20’ press riser, each requiring carpet, skirting, safety rail, and staircase, a small generator, 100’ of cable ramp, and 500 elegant, white resin chairs. All equipment was to be set-up in no more than 150 minutes, as speeches by the mayor and chief of police were to begin at 10:00am sharp.
Equipped with a ten person crew and a box of coffee, Klassic Sound arrived bright and early to ensure their equipment would be set-up right, and on time. The set-up went smoothly, and the production went on with out a hitch. “Given the required amount of equipment, and the short window we had to set it up, our game plan for the crew played a huge role in the success of this production,” said owner Mike Klass. “Our team understood their expectations and how important it was for everyone to work together. If anyone was to stray from task, or not set-up equipment the right way, in the right spot, the first time, this event could have quickly turned into a disaster. I’m really proud of the crew, and the way everything unfolded today.”
This was the second government contract Klassic Sound successfully completed a four week span. The first one being with Serve DC, for their 9/11 remembrance event held at Freedom Plaza. The company was proud to be part of such an important event for Alexandria, VA, and looks forward to completing more jobs like this in 2012.
